ValGBI extends its research impact with an integration project
1st September 2019
ValGBI will receive additional integration funding from NERC to link and combine specific research activities with the DroughtFlood project (NE/S002847/1) developed in the rural areas of the Vietnamese Mekong Delta (VMD). The proposed work will leverage the expected outputs of both projects related by extending their spatial reach and by explicitly modelling the VMD as a connected system of upstream (agricultural) and downstream (urban) areas.

Asia floods: How can the damage be reduced?

There’s been a lot of destruction caused by floods across Asia. Countries such as India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal and Vietnam have seen hundreds of homes destroyed and lives lost. Every year, widespread flooding and landslides happen a lot between the months of July and September – also known as the monsoon season.

ValBGI Kick-off meeting and site visit in Can Tho

Researchers from the ValBGI project met in Can Tho for a kick-off meeting. After detailed discussions of the project work to be conducted over the coming two and half years, the team of Vietnamese and UK researchers also visited sites around the city with potential for investment in blue/green infrastructure to increase flood resilience.
